Reiki means “Universal Life Force Energy”. This energy is referred to as ‘ki’ in Japan, ‘chi’ in China and ‘prana’ in India. Reiki is a gentle, yet powerful practise to direct this flow of energy to the client in order to facilitate deep relaxation and promote feelings of well-being.
Reiki is not massage. The client remains clothed and the treatment is carried out with the client lying down on a couch (or sitting in a chair if this is more comfortable for the client). I place my hands gently on or above the client’s body in a series of unobtrusive positions working down the body from the head to the feet.
The treatment starts with me asking the client a few questions about their health and any other issues they would like help with, then I will normally not speak during the treatment. The client may feel heat from my hands during the treatment and sometimes even tingling or floating sensations. This is all perfectly normal – and it is quite normal not to feel anything at all during the process.
Reiki is a very calming and relaxing treatment and can help still the mind, reduce stress and help emotional and physical relaxation. Reiki is non-diagnostic and non-invasive and is therefore suitable for anyone of any age and with any health condition. It may be particularly helpful in relieving stress, anxiety, sleep problems and supporting people undergoing conventional medical treatment.
